Basic Function: Service of greeting guests at the host stand, walking them over to their table of choice, ensuring that a server is assigned to that table, and keeping track of all guests that need to be seated for dining purposes. Handling of phone calls in the appropriate manner and keeping track of reservations. This task is to be handled in a friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner resulting in a very high level of guest satisfaction.
QUALIFICATIONS : EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE
Education: Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Grade school education preferred.
Experience: No prior experience required. Prior hospitality experience preferred.
Licenses or certificates: Ability to obtain any government required licenses or certificates. For example: CPR certification/First Aid training, etc
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
- Ability to organize and keep track of guests throughout the restaurant and to have open lines of communication with servers, bussers, bartenders, and supervisors/managers.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to understand menus, communicate with guests, answer incoming calls, and multitask with various tasks.
- Ability to remember dining times and table numbers
- Ability to cite other outlet information to guests.
- Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks at any given time.
- Ability to handle incoming phone calls and keeping track of reservations.
Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness.
Greet the guests in a friendly and courteous manner and give table choice option.
Ask for the number in party, make sure the table is set up, grab appropriate number of menus (adults or children).
Ensure that the guests are following at a close distance, pull out chairs for ladies.
Seat the guests and give a friendly exit “Enjoy your meal, your server will be right with you”.
Inform the appropriate server of their new table and inform the busser.
Write down the table #, time sat, and server assigned.
Answer any incoming phone calls with appropriate greeting, ex “Thank you for calling Prairie River, this is Sue, how can I assist you?”.
Make sure to write down all reservations for each specific restaurant in the reservation book with name, number in party, time, and phone number.
Make sure to keep host stand organized, and collect all floating menus.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Benchmark from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Benchmark rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.
Supplement the bus help in clearing and resetting the tables.
Perform all assigned side work to include replenishing condiments and restocking side stands.
Perform any general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products as assigned to adhere to health standards.
