EVS Supervisor

Position Summary
Responsible for Public Area and Overnight Operation, as designated. Represents the EVS Department with professionalism and decorum. Independently leads and directs all activities of Public Area Staff. Assumes responsibility for other areas within the EVS Operation, as assigned. Guides staff in maintaining the highest levels of cleanliness and quality service, exceeding guest expectations and hotel standards in a friendly, professional manner. Oversees the daily operation of the overnight cleaning function to include Team Members, projects and administrative duties. Additional responsibilities include staffing, training, scheduling of employees, and inventory control.

Job Specific 90%
• Responsible for the smooth, efficient, cost effective operation of the EVS Department’s Public Area, and Overnight Operation including labor management, inventory control, and the development and maintenance of a positive and supportive work environment and inter/intra departmental relationships
• Meets with Manager each day to provide and receive updates
• Meets with and walks Public and Related Areas with EVS Manager to determine priorities
• Conducts daily Pre-Shift Meetings
• Conducts daily training activities
• Identifies Star Trainers for Public Area/Overnight Staff
• Conducts motivational/recognition activities for Public Area/Overnight Staff
• Creates and utilizes Public Area Operational Manual
• Consistently inspects all work performed by Public Area/Overnight Staff
• Submits documented inspection reports to Manager
• Inspects/evaluates physical condition of the hotel daily for cleanliness and necessary repairs
• Ensures removal of luggage carts from hallways and placement in appropriate locations
• Responsible for overseeing the activities of EVS front line Staff
• Maintains close contact and ensures good communication with employees
• Ensures that responsive and efficient repair services are provided to satisfy guest requests
• Encourages a positive attitude among employees and treats guests and fellow employees with courtesy and respect
• Interviews and makes recommendations regarding hiring of personnel
• Provides training for employees regarding OSHA regulations, department policies and procedures, operation of equipment, and daily tasks
• Provides employee safety training to prevent accidents, comply with OSHA regulations, and ensure hotel life safety
• Responsible for projects assigned to second and third shift employees, as applicable
• Makes special work assignments in advance for special events such as meetings, dinners, dances, etc. that may affect the lobby staff, as required
• Coordinates departmental activities to coincide with other hotel department requirements in order to maintain the overall cleanliness of the public areas, and other assigned areas of responsibility
• Plans special lobby cleaning projects and ensures their completion, as applicable
• Coordinates lobby maintenance projects with Engineering, as applicable
• Coordinates monthly accounting for all supplies requisitioned from other departments
• Evaluates EVS department employee performance
• Counsels employees regarding both positive and negative aspects of their performance, including accidents and safety violations
• Keeps Manager informed of all matters significantly affecting the department
• Stays current with industry related technological improvements geared toward product improvement and increased efficiency
• Concentrates on staff performance and customer needs, conducting situation analysis to make rapid decisions to ensure guest satisfaction
• Prepares department purchase requisitions
• Communicates linen needs, monitors and reports consumption and preservation programs
• Completes special projects related to EVS operations as assigned by the Director of EVS
• Creates an environment which fosters excellent staff morale and staff retention as a priority
• Interacts with guests to solve problems and ensure satisfaction
• Responsible for implementing control systems for keys, pagers, radios, etc.
• Ensures that EVS office and storeroom are kept neat and organized
• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

Required:
• Two years Public or Related areas supervisory experience in large fast paced, hotel housekeeping/cleaning environment
• Knowledge of diverse equipment chemicals, cleaning techniques and processes
• Thorough knowledge of all matters relating to the proper administration and operation of hospitality cleaning operations
• Knowledge of floor care and carpet care techniques
• Ability to maintain effective operating and control processes designed to attain maximum operating efficiency, while ensuring adherence to established guest service and governmentally mandated criteria
• Effective management, leadership, organizational and communication skills
• Able to work with and apply mathematical concepts
• Able to write routine reports and correspondence
• Able to speak effectively before groups of guests and hotel employees
• Able to push, stand, stoop, bend, walk and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds repetitively during entire shift
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays evenings and nights

Preferred:
• Associates or higher degree in Hospitality Management or equivalent work experience

Qualification Standards

Education: Associates or higher degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality or equivalent

Experience: Two years Public or Related areas Supervisory experience in large fast paced, hotel housekeeping/cleaning environment
