Henry’s Restaurant & Bar in Berkeley: Where Traditions Begin

The Hotel Durant houses the best sports bar and pub in town – Henry’s Restaurant and Bar, a longtime local hot spot and one of the best Berkeley gastro pubs in town. Henry’s features fresh, seasonal food to enjoy with an extensive selection of beers, California wines, and unique cocktails. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served.

There is no better place than Henry’s restaurant to take in a Cal Berkeley sporting event. Our bar offers 16 beers on tap and 9 big screen TVs with premium soccer, football, and baseball packages to ensure that you don’t miss a moment of the game.

Henry’s is about to undergo extensive renovation in both front and back of house and we are looking for a new Director of Food and Beverage. The ideal candidate will have renovation and pre-opening experience, service training experience, strong organizational and communication skills, knowledge of industry trends, maintains inventory and has strong business and financial acumen. Large scale special event management is essential.

Job Summary

To accomplish operational objectives and ownership standards by implementing and contributing to strategic plans.  This will be accomplished by preparing and completing action plans, ensuring production, quality and service standards; forward thinking; identifying trends; continuously seeking improvements; and, implementing change.


Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates scheduling for all F&B related activities, including restaurant FOH staff, BOH staff and banquet staff.

  • Oversees and assists in the training and development off all F&B supervisory and line staff.

  • Oversees the development and maintenance of both food and beverage menus.

  • Hires, coaches, mentors and develops F&B employees and conducts annual performance review for F&B employees.

  • Maintains knowledge of local competition and industry trends

  • Maintains and updates POS

  • Tactical planning for special events.

  • Audits and maintains inventory.

  • Maintains F&B payroll and tip declaration.
  • Creation and implementation of the annual budget for Henry’s.
  • Maintains budgeted financial goals to ensure maximum profitability.

  • Meets restaurant financial objectives by forecasting variances.

  • Achieves restaurant objectives by contributing to strategic plans and reviews.

  • Participates in forward thinking that will benefit the profitability of Henry’s.

  • Develops new concepts that maximize sales potential

Position Requirements

Minimum Knowledge: Requires advanced knowledge of principles and practices within a professional field or recognized body of formal knowledge.  May develop new policies and procedures.

Formal Education and Job-Related Experience

This position requires a minimum formal education of a high school diploma and a minimum Three (3) years’ experience as a General Manager of a restaurant, Full Service hotel.
