Job Details

The Arctic Club Hotel in Seattle, WA is seeking an energetic, qualified and professional Director of Engineering. Hilton Experience is preferred but not required. Previous hospitality experience is required.

To maintain the guestrooms, public space, grounds, mechanical areas and back of the house areas in good repair by performing various tasks related to a variety of trades including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, wall covering and masonry to ensure an attractive, safe and well-maintained hotel.

Routinely inspect guestrooms, public space, grounds, mechanical areas, and back of the house area to repair, touch up or replace light bulbs, lamps, switches, outlets, faucets, toilets, hardware, filters, paint, furniture, wall covering, caulking, grouting or other miscellaneous repairs. This requires the individual to visually inspect and detect items needing repair and requires a considerable knowledge of a wide variety of maintenance trades. Basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical experience is used frequently on the job. Performing these duties requires experience in using basic hand and power tools and the ability to stoop, kneel, grasp, lift, push and pull weights up to 80 lbs., climb ladders up to 30 feet high and reach in all directions, often times overhead.

Detailed record keeping in English is required for logs and inspection sheets. Scheduling of annual, quarterly and monthly work and inspections.

Maintain inventory of supplies needed for department to perform job functions.

Lead all safety initiatives and training for department and entire hotel staff

Accurately use budget to determine spending levels by month and to track expenses and labor so as to remain within budgeted amounts, and make adjustments as necessary. Coding of all departmental invoices.

Participate in Manager on Duty program and Journey Ambassador Program, as well as daily and weekly staff meetings.

Be "on-call" 24 hours per day for hotel emergencies involving hotel systems, emergency procedures, and life safety equipment.

Hire, manage, and train all Maintenance Personnel to ensure the development of the staff, in accordance with THG standards as well as state and federal laws.

Ensure staffing requirements for the coverage of Hotel are met. Able to manage and direct subordinates in daily and weekly tasks while holding them accountable.

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by THG or the franchise from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel including weekends and holidays.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with THG's rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Report major repairs and items which cannot be repaired to the General Manager for further action and if necessary, place a room out of order. Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.

Obtain bids for all work contracted and equipment and supplies purchased.

Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.

At all times projects a favorable image of The Hotel Group & the Hotel to the public.

Job Requirements

Ability to deal with a number of problems requiring initiative and good judgment

Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and work in small confined spaces with considerable noise and frequent interruption.

Ability to work on ladder or walkway.

Ability to work in extreme temperatures. Extreme is defined as temperatures sufficient to cause bodily discomfort if worker is not provided exceptional protection.

Physical activities include standing, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, bending, crawling, crouching, climbing, balancing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, stretching, grasping,
holding, handling, feeling, pushing, pulling.

Ability to grasp, lift or carry items weighing up to 100 lbs. occasionally waist high.

Areas of the hotel have noise and vibration levels sufficient to damage hearing if not protected.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High school diploma required.

Basic experience in maintenance trades, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry.

Hilton Quality Assurance knowledge and requirements a plus.
